Ferocacti, sometimes called "Barrel Cacti", are known for their beautiful spine formation. Spines are often brilliantly colored. They originate in the Southwestern United States and Mexico, so are accustomed to very dry conditions. Although slow growing, they are not difficult as long as they are given a porous soil, lots of light and air, and allowed to dry between waterings.
